They like chocolate so much, they have Kisses as the lampposts, both wrapped and unwrapped.
We went through the chocolate museum and learned a lot about how chocolate is made and about the town. There was no taste testing, which was disappointing. We made up for it with some purchases at the Hershey store.
After getting our chocolate fill, we headed to Amish country. After we ate lunch, we went to the Mennonite Information Center to learn about the people we were observing. Here are some of their signs about who is who.
Hope that clears things up. While we were there, we found several items from a line the Mennonites have called Ten Thousand Villages. They had some really neat items that are produced in third world countries as an opportunity for the impoverished to earn a living. After learning, we went out to observe. We found a horse drawn carriage, but no horse. Jaxon did not mind, and we got some pictures of him in it.
We saw several horse drawn buggies around town. It was interesting to see how fast some of these things can go. Also, how many of your libraries have buggy parking, because in Bird-in-Hand (actual city name), they do. Speaking of funny city names, we went through Intercourse, which used to be “Cross Keys,” but I bet they get more tourist with the current name.
No trip to Amish country would be complete without some Amish farming with horse drawn equipment and scenes of the beautiful countryside.
Love it!! Ya'll are so much fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! The stuff about Menanites was interesting... now I know more than the Weird Al Amish Paradise music video told me about Amish people.
