The Rich's River Retreat

Mark's grandparent's have a river house that they grew up going to quite often. He enjoyed canoeing and kayaking often and loves to go visit! This was Jaxon's first (of hopefully many) trips to visit the river house.

Earlier this summer, Jessica, suggested we take the boys to the river house for their birthday. I thought it was a fabulous idea but wanted to wait several weeks so Jaxon was a little older.

We decided to leave on a Friday soon after lunch so we could try to miss traffic. We stopped in San Marcos and did a little shopping and headed onto our destination. We arrived around 10 or 10:30 to find an air conditioner that was not cooling the house off. It was not enjoyable for any of us, especially Jaxon who we finally decided to strip down and put him in front of a fan. Poor baby felt much better! We got little sleep that night but managed to survive. The next morning Clay went and turned the unit off and then back on and to our surprise it started to cool off. I was very thankful because I was going to be in the house all day while they were on the river. Jaxon and I had a very busy day while they were gone.

We read books!

We fussed a bit so.... We took a nap! He even helped me catch up on blogging (a post which I still have not finished--it's a long one).

We had a successful afternoon but the air conditioner just couldn't keep up with the heat. When they got back from the river, we ate some lunch and decided to head to Beorne for the night so that we could sleep in the cooler air.

Jaxon got to meet some more family:

Uncle John

Rivers, Addie, and Uncle Alan

We had a great weekend despite the hot weather and hot house. I think that Jaxon was the most grateful for getting to sleep in the cool. Thanks Alan and Janice!
